Stephanie Cheung, Ministry Team Leader
Steph a 2nd generation Cantonese-American woman, a daughter to immigrant parents and an older sister to Will. She began serving with InterVarsity in 2013 after graduating from UC Davis with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in Communication and Education. She spent 5 years serving with InterVarsity at Davis before moving to Santa Cruz to plant a new chapter at Cabrillo College and to continue to build the chapter at UC Santa Cruz.
She currently serves as the Ministry Team Leader in the Steinbeck Area and has a passion for learning and spending time with, coaching, and developing staff and students “on campus” and meeting new people (ESFJ on the Meyers-Briggs)! She has a desire to participate in and invite others into more compassion and justice in our world, especially in COVID-19 times. Steph currently is a virtual member of Bethel Community Church in San Leandro and attends a small group bible study at Santa Cruz Bible Church.
She enjoys collecting and completing Disney-themed jigsaw puzzles, biking, watching spy movies and funny TV shows, and eating noodles, Sour Patch Kids, and egg tarts. She is really excited to connect with you!
Benita Isaac, Campus Staff Minister
This is Benita's third year working as a staff minister with InterVarsity at UC Santa Cruz. She is an alumni of UCSC (class of 2018) and graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics and minor in STEM education. Benita was introduced to InterVarsity during week one of her freshman year and in her college years God grew her heart for South Asian students and a love for South Indian culture.
This year Benita is excited to be working with students via online ministry. She is confident that the Holy Spirit will show up in ways that we haven't experienced before because of these unprecedented times. Benita is passionate about seeing Jesus's kingdom justice usher in shalom on earth. Her ministry is fueled by aiming to center voices that are usually marginalized in Christian spaces.
If she’s not working, she’s probably watching Avatar, making tea, listening to Kollywood music, doing handstands, or reading her favorite book series Harry Potter. She is so excited to meet new students and see how God is working their lives!
